WORSHIP

Shaping Your Faith

Worship is an encounter with God, who saves us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  At Our Savior’s, worship stands at the center of our life of faith. Through God’s word, water, bread and prayer we are nurtured in faith and sent out into the world. Worship unites us in praise and thanksgiving, engages us in thoughtful dialogue and helps us grow in our faith. All are welcome!

CHILDREN IN WORSHIP

Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. (Luke 18:15-16)

Our Savior’s values children in worship. Children who come to church with their family become a part of the worshipping community by being part of the experience.

Of course, children wiggle, get fussy and say unexpected things. That is completely understandable. We also know that small people can respond to the awe and beauty, sights and sounds that are part of the worship service even if they do not fully understand them. Children will learn that worship is about praising God through song, prayer, and offerings and will more easily understand that prayer is important, for example, when children see their parents and others praying.

Just as we teach our children how to talk or eat with the family, we also need to help them learn how to worship. The primary way we do this is by taking our children to church and worshipping with them so they can learn by example. At Our Savior’s we believe that worship and Christian Education are equally important to a child’s and adult’s knowledge and love of God.

Scripture tells us that Jesus welcomed babies and children who were brought to him.

People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. (Luke 18:15-16)

Christians continue to believe that Jesus’ love awaits children who are brought to church today.

NURSERY

Children are always welcome in the sanctuary to worship at Our Savior's, but if you prefer, Our Savior's offers a fully staffed nursery during all worship services and often during special events and bible studies.

All of our nursery workers have been background checked and as important, have a passion for caring for all of God's children. Children are supervised at all times.

The nursery offers age appropriate toys that are disinfected and maintained for safety, child-safe cribs for napping if necessary and a bathroom.

A pager will be assigned to you upon drop off so that if your child needs your assurance or that special "parental touch", we can page you to return to the nursery.

With the exception of formula or bottles for infants, we do not encourage you to bring snacks for your children as they are not allowed in the nursery due to policies on food safety surrounding food allergies. Thank you for your attention to this.

If you take advantage of the nursery, you might be interested in playtime during the week for families. Check the church calendar. Volunteering to staff the nursery is also a great way to give back and to get to know the other kiddos and their parents.
