Holy Conversation Goals
April 2008

After listening carefully to the conversations of parishioners and community leaders, the Super Cool Long Range Planning Committee recommends the following goals to be pursued by Our Savior's over the next three years. This is not a exhaustive list, nor is it meant to preclude any established or yet-to-be established ministries. However, these goals should be a priority for the ministry of OSLC.

In the next three years OSLC will . . .

      1. Work ecumenically with other churches and cooperatively with the City of Sun Prairie and local social service organizations to establish a domestic abuse safe house (i.e. Women's shelter) that will serve women and their children.

      2. Conduct a series of Community Conversations around topics such as diversity, crime, gangs, schools, and poverty. While facilitated by OSLC or a consortium of churches, the meetings will include leaders from various organizations and encourage an attendance that reflects the growing diversity in Sun Prairie.

3.Develop a service with a non-classic music style. This service may be in addition to the present three services, it may be by youth, for youth, or simply an alternative service.

4.Establish a caring ministry program of lay people for regularly connecting with the elderly, disabled, and homebound of this congregation. The purpose the program will be to make better connection within our Christian community, to possibly help with minor household tasks, and provide a caring presence. This program may also instruct persons in the task of carrying communion to the homebound.

5.Study and establish a Mutual Ministry Committee for the staff at OSLC. The committee shall be modeled on the best practices of other congregations and the established recommendations of the ELCA.

6.Encourage a more apparent global awareness by participating in a mission trip or event through the ELCA and by raising a stronger awareness of the Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church of India by developing a companion congregation relationship.

7.Each year establish a new ministry group for mutual conversation, Bible study, and service. Groups that may be formed include couples club, singles ministry (ecumenical?), young couples club, theater ministry, young adults, or ancestry search.

8.Help the congregation identify community needs and volunteer opportunities in addition to the ones we regularly support (e.g. food pantry, Red Barn). Develop a place and Web site where the congregation can easily see the opportunities available.

9.Start an after school program with the purpose of providing safe shelter, supervised activities, tutoring, and homework help for children attending neighborhood schools.

10. Increase the number of Bible studies and adult education opportunities. Plan these for various times of the week and provide child care.
